Blog server maintenance scheduled for December 22, 2008

with 7 comments

Update: Blog server maintenance is now completed. Thank you for your patience.

After 11am Pacific Time, our blog server will be temporarily down as it gets moved to our new network infrastructure. We expect the down time to be 5 to 30 minutes. We apologize for the inconvenient timing, but we’re in the middle of migrating all our servers to our new infrastructure, and not all of it can be done in the middle of the night! (Or the weekend.)

We appreciate your patience as we migrate all our servers to our greatly improved infrastructure. I hope you’ve been noticing the improved performance in the last couple weeks, as we’ve been migrating portions of it over.

We’ll be all done by January 1, 2009. What a great way to usher in the new year!

  2. Peter, thanks for the bug report. Looks like our IT team found and fixed the problem.

  3. John –
Are the forums down? I haven’t been able to access them for a few days now, either NNTP (my preference) or HTTP.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  4. Mike,

That’s no longer the correct IP address. You should be able to use forums.codegear.com directly without using the IP address. BTW, the correct IP address is 12.233.153.144.

  5. Mike,

I’m sorry you’re running into trouble with forums. The IP address changed for them around Jan 1. You may want to flush your DNS, and make sure you’re not using a “hosts” entry for it. Some of our early testers forgot to remove that entry for a while 😉

  6. Thanks John –
I did have a hosts entry, I could not connect to the forums without it. I deleted the entry, no joy. Flushed the DNS multiple times. I used the IP 207.105.75.32 in place of forums.codegear.com in TBird setup. That got me a slew of old headers, the latest I see is dated 1/1. I’m getting a network timeout. In the browser (Firefox) I get a Redirect Loop error.

Is there a better place to try to resolve this? I have a suspicion the blog isn’t the preferred way.
    Regards, Mike
