Did you get the EKON Spring 2008 email?

with 7 comments

EKON Spring 2008 is coming up in Germany, and we’re doing some email marketing for it.

If you received the email from CodeGear that was written in German entitled "EKON Spring 2008 – The Road to Delphi!" and can’t read German, I’d like to apologize. I had several people ask me why they received this email, and that’s certainly a valid question.

I’ve asked our marketing folks to find out what caused that email to have a much broader distribution list than it should have, so we can prevent it from happening again. We are also going to be providing many more opportunities for you to subscribe to information relevant to you without us having to email you about it. David I blogged about some of the prototype links for this.

  1. Thanks for bringing this up, John. We are so sorry to molest people around the world. We certainly did not want to spam Non-German speaking guys …

  2. I received it here in The Netherlands, but I wouldn’t consider it SPAM. Most people in this country can read enough German to figure out the gist of this mail, and for several of us the EKON is certainly a relevant and interesting prospect, “even if” the invitation is written in German. So, to Sabine, thanks for the info.

  3. I totally agree with Kristofers remark: many people do understand German well enough to get the grasp of the message.

In addition to that: Marco Cantu, Hadi Hariri and Michael Li will be there doing their EKON Spring 2008 sessions in English.

Maybe the next invitation could be multi-lingual?

  4. John, not only did I get the EKON email… but now I’m getting a bunch of spam in German. You might want to check where else the mailing list went.

  5. Kristofer and Jeroen, thanks very much for your graciousness and understanding. Sabine and Roland were very upset to learn that this email as distributed more broadly than planned. It was a very simple (and honest) mistake.

Michael, could you please email me some details so I can make sure that spam is NOT coming from us? TIA

  6. I received it here in Australia, which was a bit of a surprise at the time!

I thought it was more funny than anything else 🙂 Certainly not a major problem you have to apologize for, these things happen.
